About this resource

Health-related challenges affecting workers can vary greatly. Depending on the nature of the health-related transition, some workers may move through health conditions privately, with their workplace and colleagues unaware of their condition. For others, the transition will be more obvious.

This guide focuses on 3 health-related transitions: cancer, menopause and gender transition. These situations represent different forms of transitions, with different potential responses and risks, and provide a sample of considerations for workplaces and organisations.

The guide outlines ways organisations can support people experiencing these health-related transitions, and things these workers can do to support themselves.

The case study focuses on menopause, and how the Queensland Teachers’ Union implemented a support program for mid-life female workers so they can continue to be successful in their roles. It includes tips and advice for others.
