About this resource

Relocating is a significant event in a worker’s life, and is associated with a high risk of uncertainty and stress for workers and their families. Common challenges associated with relocating include:

  • understanding new workplace etiquette
  • managing family and relationship pressures
  • being homesick
  • experiencing culture shock
  • experiencing discrimination.

The guide outlines ways organisations can support people relocating for work and their families, and things these workers can do to support themselves.

The case study explored why for Porsche Cars Australia, previous staff locations often failed within the first 12 months, and steps the organisation took to address this situation. It includes tips and advice for others.
