Employers have duties to manage risks work health safety under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. This model code provides guidance on the four-step process for managing risks:

  1. Identify risks
  2. Assess risks
  3. Control risks
  4. Review control measures.

The hierarchy of controls can help you decide how to eliminate and reduce risks in your workplace. Always choose controls from the highest level you can that are suitable for your business.

Your jurisdiction needs to approve the model code for it to have legal effect. Check with your regulator to find out if it has been approved in your jurisdiction.
